Skincare Dangers: Stay Away from These Chemical
Skincare products boast a lot of claims these days. Some of these products however, contain substances that may not agree with your skin and could cause problems. Before purchasing one of the many beauty products on the market, check to see if they contain any chemicals from our list below.
1. Alcohols"Many skincare products contain alcohols in some form. You may not actually see the word alcohol but ingredients that end in ols are more than likely some type of alcohol. Most alcohols are used as drying agents. They help products to blend into the skin and disappear. Alcohol dries in air. For people with dry skin, alcohols will deplete moisture in the skin and increase the dryness. When found in shampoos, they can strip the hair follicles of essential oils and leave the hair brittle and dry.
2. Parabens"These substances are found in many beauty and skincare products. It is not a substance that people take the time to recognize but people do have allergies to them. the substance itself is added for shelf life-to avoid growth of bacteria in the product. With so many ingredients you wouldnt know if you were sensitive to parabens necessarily so try to stay away from them anyway.
3. Scents"Those labels that say Spring fresh or Rain showers entice us to buy that skincare product, but beware. A fragrance is nothing more than a combination of chemicals, any one of which can cause skin irritations in the user. You could end up irritating the skin on your entire body.
4. Phthalates"Look at the ingredient list on your lotions and soaps the next time you are in the store. If you see the word phthalate (pronounced thal-ate), put it back. These chemicals have a poor reputation and if they are harmful to animals.
5. Dyes"We never wonder where the color comes from in our skincare products. It adds flare to the packaging to entice the consumer but it does more than that. Read your labels. Dyes can dry out your skin or cause rashes and other nasty skin irritations for those with sensitive skin or allergies.
It is a little known fact that skincare products are not monitored by the FDA. We place our skin in the hands of these manufacturers when we buy their products. It is up to us to take our health into our own hands.
We hope that manufacturers wouldnt sell us a bad bill of goods but it happensa lot. The only thing that these manufacturers are required to do is list ingredients on the label according to how much is included. Even with skincare products claiming to be all-natural, check the label to validate their claim.
