5 Myths on Cellulite Reduction Debunked

by Tara L Riazanov

Each and very year millions and millions of dollars are spent on cellulite treatments that simply don't work. Slick marketing campaigns convince thousands of women to buy a cellulite reduction method only for them to be disappointed when the results don't appear.

This is why it is important to have some knowledge about the condition before you are misled by slick marketing campaigns. The first step is to debunk some myths about what cellulite is and what the best way is to get rid of it.

1. Cellulite Begins When You're Over 40

As people get older they put on more weight and the structure holding their cells together begins to breakdown. This makes age a major risk factor for cellulite. However, the condition can occur at any age including when you are a teenager.

2. Only Overweight People Have Cellulite

Just as many skinny women are affected by cellulite than overweight ones. Why? Because cellulite occurs when the thin layer of fat under the skin begins to become lumpy and uneven. This fat layer exists even when the rest of your body has very little fat.

3. Sodium is a Major Cause

A sensational myth is that the sodium found in soda pop leads to cellulite because it causes the fat cells in the body to became larger and harder. There is no evidence that this is true. But what soda pop does have is sugar which can cause people to put on more weight and fat.

4. The Problem Areas are Always the Thighs and Bum

Cellulite can be found almost anywhere on the body provided that there is enough fat content to be found under the skin. That is why the bum and thighs are the most common trouble spots for women but it can also affect other areas if your fat content is high enough.

5. Diet and Exercise Are The Only Treatments

Changes to your diet and exercise are extremely important. As already mentioned, cellulite's major risk factor is being overweight. But because slender people also get the condition it shows that being overweight is only a contributing factor. For the best results it is important that you do other treatments combined with exercise and diet changes.

Cellulite removal treatments can include creams and lotions, body wraps, radio therapy, sound wave therapy and laser therapy. Most of these treatments can be done by your beauty therapist at your day spa. If these don't appeal do you there is always the options of having a trained plastic surgeon conduct liposuction.

The Proper Way to Wash Your Hair

by Jennifer Summers

Not many are aware of this but there is a right and a wrong to wash your hair. When you do wash your hair properly, you will notice a much better difference in the health and shine of your hair. It is very likely that you have washing your hair incorrectly and as a result you're not getting the really clean and healthy looking hair that we are all capable of having.

Step 1. - Begin. Start by giving your hair a good brushing before you get into the shower. This will reduce hair breakage, help loosen dirt and keep to a minimum the number of hair caught in your shower drain. After you have finished brushing, you need to thoroughly and completely wet your hair using warm water (not hot). To get a good wash you need to wet your hair well as washing your hair with dry hair is hard.

Step 2. - Adding shampoo. Something that people often do is to use far too much shampoo when washing their hair. Usually they will just squeeze a good handful into their palm and then begin scrubbing away. This is definitely not the right way to wash your hair. First make sure that you are using very high quality hair care products (using the right product for your hair type) and just add a smallish amount to the palm of your hand.

Step 3. - The proper way to wash your hair. There two biggest errors people usually make in washing their hair are: 1). Scrubbing/massaging too hard 2). Rinsing off shampoo too quickly. After adding the shampoo, the best way to wash your hair is too rub or massage your scalp and hair gently. Vigorous scrubbing can be bad for you scalp and does clean hair any better. When you have finished lightly massaging your hair for a short period, the shampoo can be left in for up to 5 minutes for a thorough clean.

Step 4. - Rinse and Repeat. Now that your hair has had a good shampooing, it's time to get all of that dirt, grime and shampoo lather out of your hair. When you come to rinse your hair, it's important to give your hair a really good rinsing. While it may look like all of the shampoo has been rinsed out, there can still be plenty of product left in your hair. Once you have rinsed, there is absolutely no harm in washing your hair a second time. When your hair squeaks, you know it's clean.

Properly washing your hair will make a difference to how your hair looks, and regular proper washing will transform the look and feel of your hair after a period of time. Following the simple steps given above will guarantee great looking clean hair. An extra tip for even better looking hair is to consider using professional salon products on your hair. They usually contain the best ingredients for cleansing hair and are concentrated so you use less and save money.
