Microdermabrasion is a painless procedure in which fine particles are used to smooth the skin. This is achieved by scrubbing away the stratum corneum, the very top layer of skin. These cells, which act as a buffer between the environment and the layers of skin beneath, are already dead.

What it does:

The stratum corneum is the layer most prone to sun damage, dark spots, the early signs of wrinkles, and light scarring. Microdermabrasion can help to erase these problems by removing that top layer of dead skin, allowing new, fresh skin to replace it.

Before you start the treatment, perform a patch test on a small area of skin. This might be on your forehead, chin, or just behind your ear. This is an important step, as an allergic reaction may cause visible effects that can last days or even weeks. Wait twenty-four hours after the patch test before proceeding with the treatment.

Some kits will leave you skin red and a bit sensitive for a few hours, so it is best to use the treatment in the evening. If you use it before you evening shower you can wash away any particles that may be harder to rinse off.

2.Cleanse your face, or whatever area you are planning to use microdermabrasion on (such as neck, arms or hands) with your usual facial cleanser, or one that is included in the kit. Rinse your face well with warm water once you have cleaned it.

3.Read the instructions to see if your face should be dry or left slightly damp when using the product. Use either a provided sponge or applicator, or your fingers, to gently massage the cream into your skin. Be careful not to massage it too much into any one area, as this can cause irritation to the skin.

4.Wash away the crystals thoroughly. If you experience difficulty washing them off, take a shower and keep rinsing.

5.Gently pat your face dry with a soft towel.

6.Apply either a provided moisturizer or simply your usual facial moisturizer.
