The misconceptions surrounding acne abound; some people believe it is caused only by oily skin, while others believe that it is caused exclusively from dirt which clogs pores. This is because the regular soap that is used on your body is very harsh, and it will cause your delicate skin to react, or overreact, by producing way too much oil. Instead, you should use a good facial cleanser on your face.

Another very important thing that you should not do is use alcohol. By this I mean rubbing alcohol, which some people insist on applying to their skin topically. The reason that this is a bad idea is because it has the same drying effect as regular soap.

Keep your hands off your face. Really, this is common sense; at least it is for some. But, the idea here is that you spread infection by popping, prying, poking or mashing zits. This is because the fluids form the zits leaks to unaffected areas.

The reason that you do not want to pop zits is because they are full of fluid, which is nothing less than bacteria floating in water. If you pop the zit on your face, and this fluid runs onto an area of your skin that does not have acne, it will spread the infection.

Although this is nothing more than common knowledge, which is common sense for most, you should consult your doctor if you're unsure. This is especially true if you are allergic to any chemicals, because you may be allergic to the chemicals in any facial cleansers.
