Causes of Rosacea and How to Get Rid of It
There are different types of rosacea, such as red face rosacea, rhinophyma, acne, and ocular rosacea which affects the eyes. People of all ages can be affected by rosacea but there's a higher risk for people ranging from 30 to 60 years old.
In fact, there are about 45 million people all over the world who are affected by rosacea. 14 million of those people are from the United states. Although a lot have already been affected, only a few are aware of their condition.
Here are the types of rosacea that have been noted up to this date:
- Red face rosacea is the type wherein the face blushes like it's irritated. It affects the nose and central part of the face. Small visible blood vessels on the face can be seen sometimes.
- Rhinophyma rosacea is the type wherein the patient's skin will thicken and the oil glands are enlarged. It usually affects the nose and face areas.
- Acne type rosacea is distinguished by the bumps and lesions on the face. Sometimes they are pus-filled pimple-like bumps. It's also known as papulopustular rosacea. It may be accompanied by a red or blushing face but sometimes it may not.
- Ocular rosacea is characterized by red eyes and lids. Patients may feel a burning or gritty sensation.
Rosacea is not a fatal condition but people affected by it can be psychologically and socially distressed. Most people would lose their self-esteem. Those affected would usually use cleansing products to cure rosacea but overuse of those products can only worsen their situation.
Instead of getting rid of rosacea, overuse of the products just causes new breakouts. Because of this, affected individuals would like to be isolated from the public. They may even cancel their work appointments causing problems on their job performance. It would be better if it's treated right away to avoid these things from happening.
What are the causes of rosacea? According to some studies, heredity plays a role in the onset of rosacea. It is most common among certain European ancestries although other ancestries can also be affected. Women are known to be more prone than men, but some men showed more obvious symptoms of rosacea than other women.
Rosacea can be triggered by activities that cause the face to blush, exposure to extreme temperatures such as sunlight, strenuous exercises, sauna or hot baths, anxiety and stress. It can also be triggered if you are fond of eating spicy foods. Alcohol and other drinks with caffeine can also trigger rosacea.
How can it be cured? Rosacea cure depends from patient to patient. A certain method may work for one patient but not for the other. Most of the time, what's being cured are the symptoms, like the redness and the acne-like bumps on the face, instead of the rosacea itself. It's best that you see your dermatologist so that proper prescription can be given.
Several methods are available to cure rosacea. They range from oral antibiotics like tetracycline to topical solutions like metronidazole to the use of sulfur soap. These treatment methods are usually the first line of defense against rosacea. A natural and fluid skin treatment ingredient known as "Helix Aspersa Muller Glycoconjugates" that is derived from the brown garden snail is said to have the ability to remove papules and repair the skin.
Laser treatment is one way to cure rosacea although it costs more than the other methods. It is by far one of the best treatments available. Lasers damage the capillary of the affected skin and trigger the body's natural defense mechanism and healing process to cure rosacea.
The onset of rosacea starts slow and does not get worse right away. Symptoms are most often experienced before the skin breakouts. A good way to combat rosacea is to know the symptoms. Prevention is always better than cure so it is best to avoid activities that can cause rosacea breakouts. And remember to consult your dermatologist first before using various cleansing products on your face.
